Eastern Cottontail Rabbit
Just the other day I had a chance encounter with an Eastern Cottontail Rabbit. To my surprise it was large, easily twice the size of our Brush Cottontail Rabbits down Southern California. According to Wikipedia that makes sense as a Brush Rabbit rarely weighs over 2 pounds. The Eastern Cottontail Rabbit on the other hand can weigh as much as 4.4 pounds.
Although the light was terrible and the area mosquito infested, I decided to stick around and get in a few images. To my surprise the rabbit got comfortable with my presence fairly rapidly. This allowed me to observe it behaving naturally and relatively stress free. Rabbits are prey and in a region with a heavy population of Red Fox, these bundle of furs never let their guard down.
I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do. As always you can visit my photo gallery and browse my entire library or purchase prints @ http://photos.tempusaura.com
